02:36:49 <int-e> . o O ( color photographs of a black and white world )
02:39:48 <int-e> One of the more memorable Calvin&Hobbes strips, though I'm not sure I can find it online on demand. But basically Calvin asks why old pictures are black&white and his father explains that the world was black&white, and then calvin asks about painting so he explains that when the world turned colorful, so did the paintings, and then the topic moves back to photographs which are still black and...
02:39:54 <int-e> ...white, which he explains as them being color photographs of the black and white world
02:40:13 <int-e> at which point, finally, mom interjects telling him "if you don't know the answer, just say so"

06:36:09 <zzo38> What I think would be better than Plain TeX is Plain TeX with an extension to access the internal functions of TeX by PostScript codes (which can also be used for drawing graphics on the page, too), which can be immediate or deferred (like \write is). Ghostscript makes it difficult to deal with PostScript objects using C codes, although there are possibilities to work with serialized objects, but this is of a limited use.
06:38:55 -!- chiselfuse has quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds).
06:39:17 <zzo38> I am not sure how any extension of TeX would be written at all with the modern implementation. Although there is the original Pascal code, that is Pascal and not C, and is also different from the changes used in a modern implementation.
06:41:22 <zzo38> There are other ways to do what I mention too, but they are more difficult and require multipass execution. There is also not a DVI output driver in Ghostscript, and making that or a better format also would be more difficult. (There is PDF, but PDF is not very good, I think.)

20:18:15 <fizzie> Hmm. I got an invoice for the esolangs.org VPS hosting.
20:20:13 <int-e> Huh. The Bytemark thing?
20:25:15 <fizzie> Yes. They had a recent price hike of X%, and the invoice total is around X% of the list price of a similar server, so I suspect what's happened there is, they've updated the prices but not the (invisible to me) discount that has previously caused the total price to be zero.
20:25:53 <fizzie> (Also, I don't keep an up-to-date credit card on file because there's nothing to pay, so they failed to actually take that money.)
20:26:11 <fizzie> I've emailed them to ask if they're still willing to continue helping us out.
