04:00:48 <zzo38> One way to implement addition with carry if you do not have a carry function already is to check if the result is less than the input operand (it does not matter which input operand you check).
04:11:40 <zzo38> I think on #esoteric on Freenode there was some discussion of operating system design, in the past? I do not remember much of the details?
04:25:45 <shachaf> zzo38: What ideas do you have relating to operating system design (both high-level stuff and low-level stuff)?
04:30:59 <zzo38> I wrote some in article <1685070921.bystand@zzo38computer.org> on comp.os.misc, and I can provide a copy if wanted

04:35:34 <zzo38> (My Usenet provider is Eternal September. I used aioe before until it had stopped working.)
04:38:24 <zzo38> Do you have comments relating to them? (And, do you have any of the details of previously discussion from other people from before, that I had mentioned?)
04:44:49 <shachaf> Hmm, not supporting modern hardware seems tricky, even if the hardware is way too complicated.
04:48:56 <zzo38> It is not supposed to mean that it is not possible to write drivers if it is desired, to support whatever hardware you want, but the design of the core system should be designed to avoid any of the bad designs of modern hardware. (In some cases it does not matter; e.g. most programs should not care how the keyboard is connected. However, neither the features nor limitations of USB/HDMI/etc will be done.)
04:55:00 <zzo38> As it says near the top, it is supposed to be a specification that multiple implementations can be made, so it is possible that some implementations will include drivers for some modern hardware that is complicated, even if the core specification does not, although it would be ideal to avoid it if possible, and programs could not rely on such things which are then nonstandard anyways.
05:20:55 <zzo38> Do you have other comments about the other parts of this message?
