22:42:55 <Sgeo> Does GRUB convey EFI variables to Linux somehow? Are they lost? Does Linux attempt to read directly without using UEFI's runtime services?

23:36:28 <fizzie> All I know is, on many distributions there's an instance of efivarfs mounted at /sys/firmware/efi/efivars. (And if you try to reinstall grub to fix a broken thing while chroot'd into a /target, and have just done a simple, non-recursive --bind mount of /sys into /target/sys, it may fail because it tries to have something to do with those.)
23:47:44 <fizzie> TIL (unrelated) that the kernel can pretend to be a PE/COFF image that can directly be loaded as an (U)EFI executable, according to https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/efi-stub.html
