00:00:01 <fizzie> It did work fine in Emacs too, I'm not even sure why I'm not using it.
00:00:02 <int-e> There are these two characters: ◖◗ ...they join in the `fixed` font and IIRC no other font that I've tested.
00:00:53 <fizzie> `unidecode ◖◗
00:00:54 <HackEso> [U+25D6 LEFT HALF BLACK CIRCLE] [U+25D7 RIGHT HALF BLACK CIRCLE]
00:01:15 <fizzie> I guess it's kind of not entirely clear whether they should.
00:01:24 <int-e> yeah
00:01:34 <int-e> it's more of an observation than a complaint

00:02:20 <zzo38> O, probably there are many things that can cause problems with lining up. I don't know if CSS has anything to do with it, or GTK, or the specific font, there are probably many possibilities for what can go wrong because they have made it too complicated I think. I just write my own text rendering code in my own programs because the others can never do what I want.
00:02:49 <zzo38> It seems Firefox is able to use bitmap fonts for some things but most can't. Trying to use bitmap fonts in GTK-based programs also has similar problems, but GTK has a lot of problems anyways; I would rather not use GTK but some programs do use it anyways.
00:03:12 <fizzie> One thing I've always found a little weird about the Unicode box drawing block is that it's got the ╱, the ╲ and the ╳, but there's no way to connect those three diagonal lines to any of the other lines.
00:03:35 <fizzie> Despite most of the block being different characters for connecting thin, thick and double lines together at various orientations.
00:03:40 <zzo38> fizzie: I think those two characters probably are supposed to be joined? (Although maybe Unicode doesn't say? I don't know)

00:05:56 <int-e> I only know that because I used these two characters as target markers for printing levels in a vaguely Sokoban-like game: https://int-e.eu/~bf3/tmp/box.png
00:10:11 <zzo38> What game is it?
00:10:19 <int-e> (original: https://store.steampowered.com/app/879850/Box_The_Game/ ...the first ~25 levels were fun, but I felt that late levels are hard mainly because they're *big*, not because they have interesting ideas. I never finished it.)
00:10:59 <int-e> I also had issues with the UI which for those late big levels, never shows the whole level at once.

00:39:52 <zzo38> I had made up my own programming language for puzzle game with objects moving on the grid, and which does not use Unicode.
00:42:48 <zzo38> (Maybe I will be able to make up the similar game using that, if I wanted to do.)
