05:13:49 <zzo38> How to wire sockets together in Linux? I am trying to add into scorpiond the possibility that if the requested file is a socket, then it will connect to that socket. (I think this might be another way to handle the permissions with user CGI, if that user is able to run a background process that listens on that socket; it also would help with some types of multiuser systems that can be accessed remotely.)

12:54:32 <b_jonas> int-e: I still haven't upgraded to debian 12 :(
12:54:38 <b_jonas> I should try, one of these years
12:55:39 <b_jonas> I will definitely not upgrade the whole debian install to unstable. I understand why it's useful if other people do it, to find bugs before everything get stabilized, but I don't want to be the guinea pig for the whole system.
12:55:43 <int-e> I have no bookworm anywhere, hmm.
12:55:59 <b_jonas> If I want to test stuff, it will be specific software, not the whole system
12:56:02 <int-e> that's a bit embarrassing actually
12:56:58 <b_jonas> where's the information about how long debian 11 will get security support?
12:58:21 <b_jonas> ah, https://wiki.debian.org/LTS
12:59:37 <b_jonas> so debian 11, which is what I run on my home computer, will get security updates until 2026-06.
13:00:23 <b_jonas> there isn't really anything that makes the upgrade urgent, but I should probably do it soon while I am not so busy that I can't deal with an update.

13:37:30 <fizzie> I'm using Debian stable on the four server-style systems I'm responsible for (including the one for the wiki), but unstable on my desktop, mostly for the software freshness angle + because in practice it's been quite stable (of course just with no guarantees).
13:39:40 <fizzie> The (in-house) Linux distribution we use at work is based on Debian testing, incidentally, just with some layers in-between. https://cloud.google.com/blog/topics/developers-practitioners/how-google-got-to-rolling-linux-releases-for-desktops

14:02:58 <fizzie> Largeish, I'd guess. The 1% canary for the release at least requires machines counted in thousands in order to be useful.
14:03:46 <fizzie> IIRC (seen it just once or twice), if you run updates manually (not that you almost ever do) and happen to be part of that 1%, there's a whimsical "congratulations, you've won the lottery" message that gets printed.
