15:49:22 <int-e> hmm... 31/12, I guess you win
15:50:01 <ais523> yesterday was a record temperature for May in England
15:50:11 <ais523> by over 2°C, which is possibly a record amount by which to beat a record
15:50:21 <ais523> today is possibly even hotter but I'm not sure whether it's been officially etermined yet
15:50:47 <ais523> @metar EGLL
15:50:48 <lambdabot> METAR EGLL 261520Z AUTO 16006G17KT 120V210 9999 NCD 34/11 Q1024
15:51:11 <ais523> ah, the news says that EGLL set a new record at 35°C today but it seems to have come down since
15:51:41 <ais523> (Heathrow Airport is, oddly, usually the hottest place in the UK – it's possible that the aeroplanes contribute to the heat somehow)
15:51:51 <korvo> We've been having summer weather early too. Fortunately we're getting rain this week.
15:52:04 <fizzie> I think yesterday's record was at Kew.
15:52:15 <korvo> @metar KPDX
15:52:21 <lambdabot> Request failed.
15:53:19 <ais523> this isn't summer weather for the UK either (or at least, traditionally hasn't been – climate change may be changing that)
15:53:58 <ais523> back when we used Farenheit, 70°F was considered unusual for summer and would make the headlines, temperatures over 90°F would be unheard of
15:54:32 <ais523> dew point is not unreasonable so, despite being too hot to really do anything, I don't feel like I'm otherwise failing to cope with the heat
15:55:20 <ais523> (I guess "back when we used Farenheit" is not a useful time reference for non-Brits, few countries have changed temperature scale that recently)

21:24:46 <ais523> was trying to measure my typing speed on QWERTY so that I could see how game controller input compares – one interesting thing I discovered was not so much the speed itself, as the fact that I seemed to use my right thumb for "b" (although I used my right index finger while typing this sentence, so maybe the context of being in a typing test changed things somehow?)
